The design of this beautiful brooch is inspired by the spiral patterns which appear in natural objects including on sunflowers and pinecones. This pattern consists of interconnecting spirals, where the number of left spirals and the number of right spirals are successive Fibonnaci numbers. This pattern is an extremely efficient method of packing (allowing the plant to maximise the number of seeds or scales), and of course is also visually stunning!
The brooch is created from laser cut 4 mm thick thick Italian Poplar plywood, sourced from renewable plantation grown wood, and is 33 mm in diameter. The brooch is secured with a 25 mm silver plated brooch back.
This brooch is a wonderful piece to bring some sunshine to your day. This piece would make a fanatastic present for anyone interested in nature, science, or both!
