My Goddess spirals are meditations on various aspects of the Goddess. The first seasonal series interprets Goddesses corresponding with the pagan and Wiccan festivals Samhain (Cailleach), Imbolc (Brighid), Beltaine (Flora) and Mabon (Demeter). Each spiral is an individual piece of art and no two interpretations will be exactly the same. They are suitable to hang over an altar, or in a window as a suncatcher.
Imbolc (February 2 or August 2) is the first festival of spring and celebrates the first signs that the grip of winter is loosening its hold. Brighid (later Christianised as St Brigid) is associated with a sacred, eternal flame, and the lighting of candles on Her day represents the returning power of the Sun and the promised coming of warmth and light, even though the snow may still be covering the Irish hills. The ivory flame and copper tones evoke the sacred flame of Brighid, as the spiral within the circle symbolises the many-faceted nature of the Goddess as She turns within the Wheel of the Year. The first pale flowers of Spring can be seen peeking out as a promise of things to come.
Brighid is 48cms long. Glass, stone, metal.
