A perennial favorite, we've been making our 'two-of-a-kind' armies from recycled, felted 100% wool sweaters since 2006. We spend loads of times in thrift stores selecting suitable woollen sweaters, then we wash and shrink them so they can be cut without unravelling. We colour matched and embellish each pair with careful consideration, then machine sew them together on the inside for a neat finish, leaving a reinforced opening in the seam for thumb to go through.
This pair is cut from a striped jumper in greens, grey and brown and is embellished with a stack of three circles in similar colours cut from jumper and t-shirt pieces. They are a medium women's fit and measure 27 cm (10 1/2 inches) in length.
Tubeway Armies are part of the Body Parts range of winter accessories, a collaboration between me and my fellow stitcher Melanie Hill (Textile Allsorts)
