This little brooch has been handmade by me.

It is a vintage 4d pre-decimal Australian Koala stamp which I've framed and turned into a brooch.

The stamp itself would have been printed between 1936 and 1956 and is in mint condition. 

It is firstly placed on a bed of pine, framed with rosewood, backed with a blackwood veneer and finished with a layer of resin.  I then give the timber frame  a final finish of eucalyptus wax, which I polish.   Makes a great gift for overseas visitors and is small enough to be mailed easily.  

Measurements are:  22mm wide x 25mm high x 8mm deep  

I have been incorporating stamps into my woodwork for some time now and I am always amazed by how beautiful the combination is. The stamps, being an everyday, common item, are actually miniature works of art which works wonderfully well with timber.
