I was inspired to make this purse while going through my old coats from my Melbourne days.  This purse is from a raincoat and therefore water resistant.  It would be perfect for an iPhone or iPod (nice snug fit).  It is lined with fabric from a black wool coat for padding.  As such it would provide some protection (although this is by no means guarenteed).

The purse measures approximately 14cm wide and 13cm high.  .
