Becoming a madeit seller
Who can sell on madeit? Anyone is welcome to sell their products on madeit as long as the product they're selling is handmade by them. It does not matter if you create for a living or as a hobby, as long as it is your creation - you can sell on madeit. Sellers can't onsell other people's handmade items. Sellers on madeit however must reside in Australia. Can I sell supplies or vintage items on madeit? Madeit is a 100% handmade website. You can not sell Supplies or Vintage items on madeit. You can sell supplies on our sister site craftumi.com.au Can I sell upcycled vintage goods on madeit? Yes, as long as you have altered them in some way you may list them on madeit. Do I have to be based in Australia to sell on madeit? Selling is restricted to people physically located within Australian territory only. Do I send my items to madeit to be a part of the online shop? Madeit is not a conventional e-commerce website, instead madeit provides affordable online advertising space for you to sell your goods to your customers. Madeit works similarly to an online classifieds. We provide the medium for buyers and sellers to find each other but we do not handle shipping, warranty or payment for items listed on madeit. How do I become a madeit seller? Simply register via the Register tab in the navigation bar. Please see the registration help page for more information. Madeit recommends that your username is your shop (store) name as your username will appear on all of your listings. Important information for sellers who accept PayPal payments madeit and PayPal both allow you to set up shipping costs that will be applied when a customer pays you using PayPal. Unless you tell PayPal to use the madeit shipping costs it will ignore the shipping price on your madeit invoice and use a value setup in your PayPal account instead. To avoid this problem you will have to tick the over-ride postage button in your PayPal account. Please see below. 1. Login to PayPal 2. click profile 3. click my selling tools 4. How to list an item for sale Log into your madeit account At the top of the page click the +Item link. You will be presented with the category selection page Choose the most relevant category and sub category for the item you are listing. You are able to list in an additional category at this point as well (additional charges apply) Click the Next button when you are happy with the category You will then see the listing format page. This page is where you could enter the physical location of your item. By default it will be loaded with the information from your account.
It is unlikely you will need to alter the information on this page. Press Next. You will see the page where you enter the details about the item you are selling
Fill in as much detail as you can about your item and click the Next button at the bottom of the page You will now see the page where you can select an image for your item.
The first available option is the Automatic relist option. Selecting this option will allow your item to automatically relist itself if it sells during the time it is listed. You must select from the drop down menu how many times you would like it to relist if it sells. Listing fees are charged when the items relists. The next available option is the Gift Guide feature. Ticking the check box will enable you to choose a gift guide category to feature this item in. This incurs additional charges. The final step is to select images to use for this item. You must use at least one image. Please ensure that all of your images are under 2mb in file size. The smaller the better. This allows for quicker upload. When you have selected all of the images you wish to use select the Next button at the bottom of the page. You will then be presented with a summary of the item. Please double check the details of the listing and then click the “Post Item” button at the bottom of the page. The item will then appear on the site and be available for sale How to create a store front Log into your madeit account Login to your account and click the "My Madeit" link From the left hand menu towards the bottom you will see the menu options relevant to a store front. Enter your store name Short description (This will appear on the stores page) Select a store banner to use. This step is optional. The store banner will appear in all of your listings. The banner width can not be longer than 950px, height is up to you. Anywhere between 700-950 wide and 150 -200px high @ 72dpi. Please make sure your image size is no larger than 1 meg. Add your Store Policies (Payment, Shipping, Returns & Exchanges) Select the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page. Your store is now active but you can add more details on your store. From the left hand menu under "Store Setup" click "Profile"
Add your profile information (This will appear in your store and can also be viewed via the listing page) Remember to click the "Save" button. Once your store front is active your store banner will appear on each of your currently active items and your items will appear in your storefront. You have a dedicated URL to your storefront www.madeit.com.au/YOURUSERNAME How to add/update your paypal account Log into your madeit account and click “my madeit” From the left hand menu under “store setup” select “listing preferences”
Your paypal email address is stored in here. You can add, alter or delete it. Please ensure you use the correct paypal email address as you will not be able to receive payments into your paypal account if it is incorrect. How to edit/end your active listing There are a couple of different ways to do this but one way is as follows: Log into your account and select "My Madeit" From the left hand menu under "Listing Status" select “Active”
To end an item select the "End Early" button associated with the item you wish to remove from sale. To Edit the item select the "Edit Item" button associated with the item you wish to alter You will be presented with a screen that includes all of the information related to the item. Change the required information - you can even add/change or delete images. When you are finished press the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page You will see the item summary changes which includes any additional charges. When you are happy with the change select the "Post Changes" button at the bottom of the page. How to add direct deposit details to an invoice Log into your madeit account and click “my madeit” From the left hand menu under “store setup” select “listing preferences”
Towards the top of the page you will see “direct debit payment instructions” Whatever information you write in here will be displayed to the buyer on the invoice. g ACC NAME: J SMITH BSB: 123456 ACC NO: 23452345 This information will be displayed on invoices provided to your Customers ONLY you allow payment for your items via direct debit and the buyer chooses this option. How much does selling on madeit cost? Madeit charges a flat fee of 35c per listing. If your item is sold you will be charged 4.5% on the sale price (we do not charge commission on postage). Do I get charged for quantities? Yes, when you list an item with a quantity of 2 or more you will be charged for each quantity when you list your item. ie. If you list one badge, it costs 35 cents but if you list it with a quantity of 3, it costs $1.05 (3 x 0.35c = $1.05) Are there any additional features that may incur a fee? When creating your listing there are additional features available that incur extra costs. • To have your listing featured in the gift guide for up to 15 days (or until sold) is an additional cost of $2.00 per listing. • To include extra images above the free limit of 4 images will cost 20c per additional image (up to 6 images) To list your item in a second category will cost an additional 25c If you choose to have your item relist itself if it sells you will be charged the listing cost again when it sells and relists itself. When do I get charged for my item listing fees? You will be charged your listing fee (35c plus + extra images + gift guide feature) when you upload your product. The sales commission (4.5%) will be charged at the time that the item sells. How long does my listing last? Listings last for 4 months from the date of creation of the listing unless the item sells before this time. When & how am I invoiced? Madeit invoices sellers on the 1st of the month via your nominated billing email address. Madeit is registered for GST. How can I pay for my invoice? You will have 7 days to pay for your invoice and your invoice can be paid via credit card or paypal. Failure to pay your fees will result in your acount being suspended and your items removed from sale. I do not have a credit card is there another way of paying my invoices? Madeit prefers payment via PayPal or Credit card. In exceptional cases we are able to accept direct debit payments for account invoice payments. Please contact madeit support via our contact page for details. I made a direct debit payment for my account fees. When will my account be updated? If you do pay your account fees via direct debit please allow 3 working days for the payment to come through to our bank account. madeit direct debit payments are only processed on Fridays or just before account reminder emails are sent out. If your madeit account has not been updated with your payment and you have allowed for the 3 working days to pass and it is now after 4 pm on the Friday after those 3 working days, please contact madeit support via our contact page so we can investigate. Is there an option to view my invoice at any time.? Your fee invoice is viewable at any time via your account. We also itemise all of your madeit fee activity. To view your invoice click on "My Madeit" in the top navigation bar, From the left hand menu under "Store Setup" click "Billing/Invoice Details". On the right hand side of the page there will be a "View Invoice" button. Do I need to create a shop (store front) to list items? A shop is optional feature on madeit. We recommend that all sellers create a store front. If you do not have a shop setup then you will not appear on the stores page. Does it cost to have a store front? No, it is free to have a shop/store front. What are the benefits of having a store front (shop)? • All your listings are grouped in one area and appear in categories. • You can upload an image banner that will appear at the top of your store. • Your banner will appear on each of your items as well as in your store. • Profile page so you can tell us all about your shop • Policies page for your Payment, Shipping, Returns & Exchanges • Feedback page • Direct url to your store www.madeit.com.au/username • Your store will appear on the stores page madeit.com.au/stores.asp How do I create a store front (shop)? Go to "My Madeit" from the left hand menu under "Store Setup" click "Store information" Enter your store name Short description (This will appear on the stores page) Add your Store Policies (Payment, Shipping, Returns & Exchanges) Upload your banner Select the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page. Should my username when I register be the same of my store? madeit recommends that your username is the same as your store name or a shortened version. Your username appears on all of your listings and under the thumbnails in the categories. For more information on registering (changing username etc) please see the registration help section. What is the recommended banner size? The banner width can not be longer than 950px, height is up to you. Anywhere between 700-950 wide and 150 -200px high @ 72dpi. Please make sure your image size is no larger than 1 meg. I am trying to upload my banner but nothing seems to be happening? Your banner file size may be too large or you are trying to upload a file that is not a jpg, gif or png. Please resize your banner and ensure it fits in the guidelines above. If you are still having problems please email the banner file to support@madeit.com.au. If I do not have a shop (store front) can I still list items and where/how will they appear? Yes, you can still list items and they will appear in your chosen categories. When the buyer clicks on "View seller's other items" in one of your listings your other listings will appear on the page. It is advisable to create a storefront though as its free, fairly easy to set up and groups your items together nicely I have created a store front but it does not appear on the stores page? Your store will only appear on the stores page if you have active listings and you are NOT on "Vacation Mode". I am going on holidays can I put my store/listings on hold? Yes we have a holiday mode to let buyers know you are on holiday and temporarily hide your listings from general searches. This can be used when you go on holidays, attend weekend markets or just need a break. Holiday mode can be activated and deactivated whenever it suits you. To activate holiday mode follow the steps below: Log in to your account Select "My Madeit" from the top menu From the left hand menu under "Store Setup" select "Holiday Mode" Tick the Holiday Mode checkbox to enable Holiday mode Add a Message for any users who come accross your store (by a direct URL) and select the "Save" button at the bottom of the page. To deactivated the Holiday Mode simply log in when you are ready to use the site again and un check the Holiday Mode check box and select th "Save" button at the bottom of the page. Will the time on my listings stop when I put my store on Holiday Mode? No, your listing time will continue to count down when your store is on holiday mode. Is there web stats for my storefront? You can use Google Analytics to track visitor to your store. Simply register with Google Analytics http://www.google.com/analytics, add your madeit shop url (www.madeit.com.au/username) and generate your unique tracking code. Copy this code and follow the below instructions Log in to your account Select "My Madeit" from the top menu From the left hand menu under "Store Setup" select "Google Analytics" Paste your unique tracking code in the field provided and select the "Save" button Please note that it takes 3 - 4 days for google to start reporting your stats.
How many images can I upload per product?
You are allowed up to 6 images per listing. Do I get charged for my images? To include extra images above the free limit of 4 images it will cost 20c per additional image (up to 6 images in total including the free images) Do you recommend an upload size for my images? For fast uploading madeit recommends that your images are no larger than 1-2 meg in size. The smaller the better. What photo files do you accept on madeit? Jpeg for photos and gifs for banner images that are vector based Does madeit re-size my images? The full size image is set to a maximum of 700px. If your images are larger than 700px (largest side), your image will be resized to 700px (largest size). If the largest length is less than 700px your full size image will appear in the uploaded size. What size & dimensions are the thumbnails? The thumbnails are 150 x 150 pixels. Does madeit crop my images for the thumbnails? Yes, all thumbnails will be cropped square. I am trying to upload my images but nothing seems to be happening? It is nearly a certainty that one or all of your images are too large. Please resize your images and ensure they fit the guidelines above. If you still having problems please email the image/s as an attachment to support@madeit.com.au and we will investigate the problem. How can I gain extra promotion for my item? You can list your item in the gift guide as long as it is suitable for one of the available categories. See the Gift Guide advertising help below. How can I be paid for my items? The buyer pays the seller directly. You have three options for payment. • Paypal (PayPal is highly recommended) • Direct debit - This option is only suitable for buyers with an Australia bank account, • Other (please include more details in Payment Instructions) - Customers located within Australia only Do NOT provide your credit card details or PayPal password to anyone. Customers do not need this information from you in order to pay for their orders. Do you have some sample text of what I could add to the payment field when I am offering direct debit or money order as a payment option? Paypal is my preferred payment option but Australian customers please contact seller on checkout if you would like to pay via direct debit or money order. Overseas buyers must pay via paypal. Am I able to save my payment details and other default information so I do not have to enter it for every listing? Yes, we do. This option will save your payment preferences so you do not have to re-enter them for every item. To save your payment preferences click "My Madeit" From the left hand menu under "Store Setup" select "Listing Preferences" In this section you can enter your item location, paypal email address, shipping cost (leave this blank if your shipping cost varies from item to item) & payment preferences. I have postage set up in paypal for my website will this affect my madeit invoices? Yes, because madeit and paypal both allow you to set up postage you will have to tick the over-ride postage button. Please see below. 1. Login to paypal 2. click profile 3. click my selling tools 4. Scroll down to Shipping my items – Shipping calculations click update 5. scroll down and tick the box to "allow transaction-based postage values to override the profile postage settings listed above" Listing an item I have registered, activated my shop & added all the above information. How do I start selling? Once you have read all the FAQs below and you do not have any more question, simply click the sell button (next to my Madeit) in the top navigation bar. What do I need for a listing? • Category/subcategory for your item. • Item location - The location the items will be shipped from. • Item title • Price • Payment method (see the payment details above) • Payment instructions - any additional info that you would like to provide to the buyer (see the payment details above) • Shipping cost • Quantity • Detailed description - Any information about the item for sale. • At least one image (see the image help section above) Are there any optional features for my listing? • PayPal Email - If you have supplied your PayPal email address in your listing preferences your buyers will be able to pay you directly - quickly and easily. Is there a way I can quickly create a listing similar to another of my items to save myself time? Yes we have a list a similar item option. Simply login, view the detailed listing of the item you want to copy. At the top of your listing click the "create similar listing" link. Go through the steps of listing (all the fields will already populated with the info from the original listing) and change any information that may need to be changed. Save and post the item as you would a normal listing. Can I create a template for a listing? Yes. To create a template login and select "My Madeit" From the left hand menu under "Items" select "Templates". At the top of the page select the "Create new Template" button Add the relevant information for this item. This is the same process as adding an item as described above. Once you are happy with all your information select the "create template" button. Your template now appears in your Template page. To make this item live click the "activate listing" button and add the final options and post the item as normal. I do not want to activate my listing straight away is there a way I can create a listing template? Yes. Create a template using the steps above. Can I activate this template more than once? Yes, just click the activate listing as many times as you would like. Is there any way I can copy a template and change details like title, description & images? Yes. To open your templates login and select "My Madeit" From the left hand menu under "Items" select "Templates". your list of templates will appear. Click the checkbox of the template you wish to copy. Select "Copy Template(s)" at the bottom of the page. Find the new template in your list of available templates and select the "Edit Template" button for this new template. Make all the relevant changes to this template and follow the prompts to ensure you save the changes What is the gift guide? The gift guide is a place for you to advertise specific items in your shop that fit into our gift guide categories. The gift guide will give buyers another way to find your items and store and will help the buyer to find the perfect item to suit the occasion. As of February 2011 the ability to have your item randomly featured on the front page will be removed as an optional extra when you create your listings. Items featured on the front page will be chosen based on various themes, staff or user choices and from the gift guide. Items listed on the front page will not incur the additional fee that currently applies for front page listing. Will my items still appear as a normal listing whilst it is featured in the gift guide? YES. Your item is a normal listing and will appear in its category on the website in addition to being featured in the gift guide. Even after your item has finished being featured in the gift guide it will still appear in its category on the site until the item is either purchased, the listing expires or it is removed from sale. How much does it cost and how long is my item featured? To feature your item in the gift guide it will cost an additional $2 per listing. Your item will remain in the gift guide for up to 15 days unless sold earlier. If you want to make sure your items stays in the guide for the whole 15 days then we recommend you list a multiple quantity item (that is of course if you have more than one of that particular item to sell) PLEASE NOTE the current price and listing time for gift guide advertising is an introductory rate until it is fully established. Generally there will be regular changes in price and listing time based on different seasons or promotions. What are the benefits of advertising in the gift guide? • Create greater additional exposure for your item and store. • The price is affordable. • The gift guide takes prime spot on the page link menu bar which means buyers will click to help find the perfect gift. • The gift guides will be promoted a number of ways including (but not limited to) on our front page featured items, blogs, newsletters, twitter and Facebook pages. How do I add my item to the gift guide? Create your listing as normal. When you get to the page where you would normally select images to include with your listing you will see the new option titled "Gift Guide Category" When you select the tick box you will see the category selection drop down menu appear. Choose the Gift category that your item falls into and continue with the creation of your listing as normal.
I already have an active item can I now add it to a gift guide category? Yes you can. Simply edit your item as you would normally edit it. Towards the bottom of the item page you will see the listing options section and the gift guide feature. As above simply select the tick box and the gift category drop down will appear for you to choose your gift category from. After editing your item remember to Save your changes and Post the item.
How do I know if I have chosen the gift guide for an item? In your active listing area the item(s) that you have chosen to be featured in the gift guide will appear with a countdown timer for how long the item will remain in the gift guide. See gift guide in the image below
Can I list my item in any gift guide category I like? As long as your item is suitable for the category you choose to list it in. If an item is found to be in an incorrect category it may be removed from the gift guide completely without warning or refund. An item can only be listed in one gift guide category at a time. Can I list my item in multiple gift guide categories and can I change the category it is in? No you cant list in multiple gift guide categories. Once it is listed in a gift guide category you can move it to a different gift guide category if you choose to. Which Gift Guide Category will be displayed most often? The gift guide categories and items will be displayed randomly by default when a user opens the gift guide page. There is no benefit to listing your item in the first Gift Guide category as it is displayed randomly. Can I make a Gift Guide category suggestion? Madeit policy is that web address of other websites should not be included in your item descriptions. Why? This method of cross-promotion by some sellers jeopardises potential sales for other sellers due to the fact that they are leading a shopper (and a potential sale) away from the madeit site. This shopper may not return. If other web addresses are included in your descriptions or banner then you may be excluded from promotion of your products in our newsletters, blog interviews and spotlight interviews. You can however include your blog, facebook or twitter in your description as long as you don't direct sales away from the madeit site, for example 'see my full range on facebook'. We also ask that you link back to madeit. Feel free to add your personal website to your profile or store policies Do I get an email from madeit notifying me of a sale? Yes, you will be sent an email confirming your sale to your nominated email address. Please make sure you have added sales[at]madeit.com.au to your email safe list of addresses. It is advisable to log into your account at least once a week to check if you have had any sales. unfortunately email systems do sometimes let us down. I do not seem to be getting my email notices for my sales? Please check your junk mail folder for the notice and check that your email address in your account is correct. If you are still have issues please contact madeit support using our contact page How long does the buyer have to pay for the item? We ask that all buyers pay within 7 days of purchasing the item. Will the buyer pay straight away? If the buyer is paying with paypal they will more than likely pay straight away. If the buyer would like to pay via direct debit (for Australian buyers only) then they will contact you for your details. If they do not within a few days then please send them a friendly reminder and send your direct debit details. This procedure would be the same for money orders. What if the buyer does not pay within this timeframe? If the buyer does not pay with 7 days and you have tried contacting the buyer with no success please contact support. Please include the item number or the item URL in your message so we can relist the item for you and refund the sales commission. How do I get an item relisted? See above or contact support. Please include the item number or the item URL in your message so we can relist the item for you and refund the sales commission. I would like to change the shipping charge on an invoice before the buyer pays Often sellers can combine shipping or find a cheaper shipping price. to alter an invoice to reflect this see below: Can I change an invoice amount? Yes you can. you must change the invoice before the buyer pays it though otherwise it will no longer be editable. Use the following steps to ammend an invoice: log into your account and select "My Madeit" from the top menu bar From the left menu under "Invoices" select "Sales" Find the invoice in the list of your current invoices. Next to it you will see an "Edit" button associated with that invoice. Selecting that will open this invoice in edit mode About half way down the page you will see the adjustments area where you can add or delete an amount from the invoice. Remember to save your changes and advise your buyer that you have updated the invoice for them How do I contact the buyer? Click "My Madeit" from the top menu bar From the left hand menu under "Listing Status" select "Sold" You will see a list of your Sold items To contact the buyer click on the envelope icon to the right of their username. Enter your message and select Send. How do I leave feedback for the buyer? Click "My Madeit" from the top menu bar From the left hand menu under "Listing Status" select "Sold" You will see a list of your Sold items Select the "leave feedback" button of an item. You will be presented with a list of items you currently need to leave feedback for.
You can leave the same feedback for multiple items by selecting the checkbox of the relevant items you want to leave the same feedback for. Rate the transaction as Positive, Negative or Neutral, provide your comment and select the "leave this feedback for selected Users" button. You must select the checkbox associated with at least one of the transactions. I have shipped an item to the buyer how do I change the status of the listing to shipped? Login to your account. From the menu on the left hand side under "Invoices" select "Sales" you will see a list of your sales Next to each item there is a "Mark Shipped" button Selecting this will mark this item as shipped. A buyer paid for an item using direct debit, how do I mark this item as paid? Login to your account. From the menu on the left hand side under "Invoices" select "Sales" you will see a list of your sales. Next to each item there is a "Mark Paid" button Selecting this button will mark the transaction as paid. Stay safe buying and selling online. It is ok to be overly cautious. If you receive any suspicious communication regarding your madeit store, items or account feel free to pass the details onto madeit support Be wary of buyers wanting to buy directly from you outside of the site.
