Description

Lucite is an acrylic which was invented by Du Pont in 1931.
It quickly became the material of choice for WWII aircraft windows because of its clarity, weight saving and bullet resistance, so is extremely hard and scratch resistant.
The first company to make Lucite Jewellery was Trifari in the 1940's as a cheaper alternative to gemstones and pearls.
If you google "Lucite Jewellery" you will probably recognise it as a piece your grandmother or Great Aunt may have owned.

This piece of Vintage Lucite is from the '70's, is in a sterling silver gallery and pearl wire setting with a beautiful little silver fairy. I have used a 10cent piece as a backing for this lovely pendant and hung it on a 3mm wide 45cm long leather.
