A dark blue clay diorama. 14cm wide by 13.5cm tall by 3cm depth. A small clay 3d picture with a girl wearing a turquoise and white stripey top, a moon and little white stars. Around the edge are the words 'Fly me to the moon, let me play amongst the stars'... the famous line from Frank Sinatra's song 'Fly me to the moon'
I work with a clay slab, hand cutting and moulding pieces of clay. I then put it together and attach the strip around the edge. It is dried to leatherhard. I then paint it using underglazes. I apply a wax around the edge, write the words with a needle tool then fill in the letters with a different colour. This piece is then fired, glazed and fired again. The firing process takes 24 hours each time from shutting the kiln to opening it! Due to this piece being truly unique and one of a kind handmade it may contain tiny imperfections - perfectly imperfect.
