Description

Macrame necklace made with 1mm waxed polyester cording in the colour Turquoise, with 6mm sized beads. This beautiful necklace holds a gorgeous metal pendant of an Ancient Egyptian Scarab, as well as the crystal Lapis lazuli. All necklaces have adjustable clasps not shown in photos.

I came across this pendant about three years ago and as soon as I saw it, I knew that I needed to make something with it. It is made out of zinc alloy, has a stunning finish; and I think that the colour as well as its weight is just...*chef's kiss!*. This necklace is dedicated to the Egyptian god, Khepri. He was depicted as having the body of a man and the head of a beetle (a scarab beetle to be exact), or in some images, a beetle above his head. He was the god of the morning-time, and he was a symbol of Creation as well. Fun fact: the beetle places its eggs into the clod it rolls and the new entity will stay there during its entire period of growth. When it finally emerges, it will in actual fact be a fully grown-up, adult entity. That's why the Egyptians thought that the scarab was something that comes alive from the lifeless and creates something living from the dead material. So it became the symbol of the self-creating life, the creation and renewal.

The story of Khepri always reminds me of the time when I was participating in a woman's spirituality group, going back just over 12 years. Our facilitator had told us a tale about her Italian neighbour, and this tale has stuck with me even to this day. This neighbour was showing our facilitator the tomatoes he was growing in his yard, and he basically told her in a very thick accent "if you wann-a da best-a tomato, you gotta have-a da best-a manure". Extremely wise words!

May this necklace inspire you to not only birth whatever creations or ideas you may have, I hope that it also encourages you to birth your own spiritual journey as well.
