It’s no great surprise that birdynumnumDesign was inspired by babies... After my sweet baby boy arrived in mid 2006 I set about creating special things just for him, handmade by his mama. I would sit at the dining room table designing and creating late into the night, which gradually evolved into making gifts for friends (as they were all having sweet babies too!) I loved it.

New ideas kept coming, and pretty soon all my materials and bits + bobs took over the dining room, and started spreading all over the house! The birth of my second baby three years later was the catalyst for my designs becoming a product line.

With lots of encouragement from family and friends I launched birdynumnumDesign in February 2010 and soon after I set up a dedicated studio space in my home. Since that time birdynumnum products have been shipped all over the world, to places as far away as Spain, UK, Switzerland, USA, Canada, Dubai and all over Australia.

Keeping up with orders is challenging but I love it. I think the care and attention to detail shows in each of my products, at least that's what my buyers tell me!

Behind the scenes

Our family are big re-use + recycler's, so much so that we recycled our house. That’s a whole other story! {you can read more about that on my website www.birdynumnum.com.au}

Many of my materials are repurposed. My creative brain never stops and I see inspiration absolutely everywhere. You see a beautiful fabric on a skirt and in my mind I am creating a lovely pillow or a wee little fish! I am inspired by so many things, such as interior design, nature, fashion and of course, my boys. They often come up with ideas and are totally fascinated when I turn them into reality. And I love that they are learning to re-use things in a new way, especially in this 'throw away' world we live in today.

I often wonder what their friends are thinking when they see me with a wood saw cutting up pieces of driftwood, and using my cordless drill in the kitchen. "oh that's just mum making her birds" says Flynn (aged 6). He especially likes it when I make something in 'lellow' because it's his second favourite colour ♥
