I have been making these shoes (I've made well over 300 pairs) for just over 4 years now due to the monetary demands of buying shoes for two pairs of rapidly growing feet.
The shoes have been seriously road tested by my twins who do not spend any time in the stroller, so I can tell you that they will stay on even when running at 100 miles an hour - all day.
It's always been promoted by podiatrists that soft soled shoes are best for growing feet which is good to know. I also find it much nicer to carry a child (or children) on my hip with soft soled rather than hard soled shoes (in my case less bruising of my upper legs).
I enjoy trying out new colour combinations of leather and various embellishments (doilies/ribbon/sewing tape) so a lot of my designs are one offs. I would suggest that you might also like to look in the sold tab as most times (subject to component availability) these can be replicated and just haven't been due to my having been inspired to try out another style or material combination.
Now that the twins are wearing shoes I've made them in combination with store bought shoes I'm enjoying getting into sewing more, creating clothes that are stylish while still letting kids look like kids (no string bikinis on kids for me) and I especially love the Enid Gilchrist sewing books and am learning a lot while drafting patterns and adapting sizes and styles to suit. I also love that from these magazines I have learnt heirloom techniques for finishing seams (I don't like the look of overlocking even on clothes that I have purchased for myself) and it's nice to look at clothes that look as good on the inside as the outside with no scratchy seams, which is also why my brand and size labels are always on the outside of my items.
I also believe in the waste not want not and use the scraps from the shoes to make the hairclips.
I enjoy the designing and making process and how sometimes there are happy accidents so that when things don't go to plan they sometimes work out even better.
I love spending time with my two youngest children at home and being able to go into the classroom at short notice with my eldest, so thank you for supporting a stay at home mum to enjoy some creativity and allow me some discretionary spending. I hope you receive as many compliments as we do.
