It was a strong creative urge and the need to reduce a growing mountain of fabrics I have collected over the years which sparked the beginning of edna wears ... My career in design was put on hold when I married, moved to the country and had three beautiful children. Not until now has it ever felt like the right time to begin creating again.
With a life long love of all things vintage and a passion for collecting unusual and unique clothing and fabrics, a label inspired by things past seemed natural.
The growing awareness of reusing and recycling has offered the opportunity to give new life to pre-loved and discarded items and the challenge to create only from collected materials. Remnants of fabric, linen, curtains, table cloths, scarves, clothing, buttons, zips – nothing escapes the scissors if it has great colour, texture or print and can be recreated into something new.
The nostalgic and very vintage sounding name ‘Edna’ seemed perfect when I discovered that it was Hebrew for ‘rejuvenation’. I liked the connection with that very glamorous, very Australian icon by the same name as it added a quirky touch!
All of edna’s treasures are one-off or limited edition items and are designed and handcrafted by me. The range includes fashion accessories such as handbags, belts, purses, brooches, necklaces, scarves, hair accessories and more recently items of clothing. I hope you find something you like.
edna wears… is constantly evolving. The hunt goes on for pieces that inspire so the challenge of recreating old favourites may continue.
