We are a family run business whose love of sea glass and the ocean goes back many years. As avid beachcombers, we have spent many hours searching the sands, rock pools and shallows of the beaches around the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. While the glass we use in our designs is primarily from the Peninsula, we also travel interstate in our quest for sea glass. Additionally, our collection now also includes many special pieces from other collectors around the world.
Genuine sea glass is the glass that can be found along ocean shores around the world and has been tumbled by waves for many years. Sea glass is also known as mermaid tears, beach glass and marine gems. No two pieces are the same, making them truly unique in nature. We use only genuine sea glass that we either find on the beaches of the Mornington Peninsula, interstate or from collectors overseas. We will always identify if the sea glass in your gift is from the Peninsula or elsewhere.
We do not alter the shape of our sea glass and use each piece the way it has washed up on our shores. Some designs may require a drill hole; however the overall shape is how the Bay created it! Depending on the design or the look we are trying to achieve we may leave the sea glass frosted or we may wipe a small dab of almond oil on the glass to give it a "just washed up in the tide" look. You can decide which look you prefer as washing your sea glass gently in warm water will return the sea glass to its frosted state.
On genuine sea glass you will see small marks and indentations. These reflect the many, many years of being exposed to the sun, waves, rocks and sand. Sea glass is not perfectly smooth and rarely flawless. Treasure this, as it is how you know you have something that is truly old and unique and has been shaped by nature itself.
