Founded by Gabriella Tagliapietra, a freelance designer, craftsperson and artist based in Como, NSW, Australia, stilelemente is a fusion of her creativity and experiences that influence her, resulting in unique hand-made products – elements of style for everyday life.
Growing up in a family where creativity was a natural aspect of everyday life, as a child, Gaby soon found the joy of being able to create fabulous far-off places and wonderful exotic lands to escape to through her art…
Her mother’s sewing room was also another place of intrigue, filled with pattern, colour and texture from fabrics, trims, braids and exquisite buttons that unknowingly seeped into her subconscious and would later start her on a wonderful creative journey of her own.
Completing an intensive Fashion Certificate course at Randwick TAFE, in the early 1990’s Gaby began hand-painting designs on clothing, making beaded jewellery and other items and selling these at Glebe Markets in Sydney for a period of time. A desire to learn how to produce items with a more professional edge led her to enrol in the Bachelor of Applied Arts at The College of Fine Arts (CoFA), UNSW in the late 1990’s, graduating in 2001 with a Textile major.
A ten-year stint with Ansett Airlines enabled Gaby to travel throughout Australia and abroad – experiences and travels that would shape her and result in a deep well from which she can draw for inspiration.
Wandering off the path of pursuing the long-held dream of running her own business, during the past seven or so years other creative outlets were found in renovating her home and creating a beautiful garden, two ongoing projects. However, 2009 saw Gaby finally pick up the trail again by undertaking a Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts at Hunter Institute of TAFE. This was followed by an intensive Certificate IV in Small Business Management, through New Hunter Business in Newcastle, NSW.
Realising relatively early on that it was not the fashion aspect of fabric but the fabric itself Gaby is now producing her own textile designs that are hand screen-printed onto organic and natural base cloth. The decision to screen-print the designs comes from a love of hand-made objects that display a wonderful, unique quality that mass-produced items lack. The decision to use natural and organic base cloth and water-based, non-toxic inks comes from a deep respect and love for natural environments. This carries through to the paper products under the stilelemente banner, ensuring they are made from sustainably produced or fully recycled stock and printed by a green printing business.
Committed to excellence on all levels, all attempts are made to produce items that do not impact negatively on the environment, on animals or people.
