Hello, my name is Kanga and I live in Sydney, Australia ... a long way from my hometown of Manhattan, New York! I love arts, crafts, sewing and Siamese cats. While raising my family I didn't have as much time for crafts, but now that I have more free time, I can indulge in my passions.
My friend, Barbara, who is a mad keen quilter dragged me to the Craft Exhibition 2 years ago at Darling Harbor. There I saw quilts that were actual pictures done in fabric...and I was hooked. A new craft to explore. While I have 3 international blue ribbons for my batik work, I've never used "thread" as paint. How exciting to try this now. Starting small, I bought designs and sewed them out on my new Mother's Day Gift (to me) ...a Janome Memory Craft 350E dedicated embroidery machine.
I enjoy various gift projects, like the lacy sachets, filled with fragrant rose petals. Perfect for lingerie drawers. Or the lacy bookmarks which are so pretty and last a lifetime of good books. A wonderful gift for the readers in your life. I will also take orders for either the sachets or bookmarks if you prefer a special color. Both make lovely gifts for mum, grandmother, and friends ...or for yourself.
Another project of Piper Designs is designing and sewing free bags for Cancer patients, which are given to women after surgery. A central co-coordinator sends them off to hospitals all across Australia to hospitals who need them. I make them with pretty designs to help boost their spirits and feel feminine again. Each bag contains a small lace bookmark I've made and a note telling the patient we are praying for a speedy, permanent recovery. As a former Hospital Chaplain, my heart goes out to these brave women.
My goal is to sell quality handmade items at reasonable prices so people can enjoy having crafted items without breaking the budget.
