My name is Kylie and I live in the beautiful Sunshine Coast hinterland with my family where I make my range of wooden toys. I love toys that offer a broad sensory experience to little ones with thanks to mother nature. I always aim for my toys to be gorgeous to look at, lovely to touch and they should inspire imagination through a simple, open ended nature. A few well chosen pieces can help to create an inspirational space for a little person to enjoy.
I uncovered a creative urge for woodworking when I realised that I wanted my children to enjoy the natural sensory delights of wooden toys. A handful of toys turned into too many for one family and Raw Toys was born! I am self taught and as I learn more skills and experiment more, I'm able to bring new toys to my shop all the time. I usually run with my inspiration, so many of my toys are one-off creations. If you are looking for a unique gift idea that you won't see anywhere else, be sure to check back often as I am constantly creating and listing new things.
I cut the majority of pieces myself from sustainably harvested pine. I also use a small handful of sustainable birch pieces (such as my miniature people). Each piece undergoes three stages of sanding, all done by hand, until every edge is smooth and rounded - a lovely tactile experience for little hands. Simple details are burned on, so the colour will never bleed or wear away. I use an Australian made, non-toxic, water based paint for colouring pieces. Most items are finished with beeswax and oil polish that I blend myself (the exception is fairy doors, which are finished with varnish so they may be displayed outdoors).
