Designer Spotlight: Toni from Fairydust Stylish Stationery
visit storeMy name is Toni Dunderdale and I have a home studio in the Eastern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. I have been a member of the Made It Community since 2010 and in 2014, I decided to setup my own Made It store to sell my range of A4 wall prints. I’m a solo artist, married to an amazing man who has supported my full-time business Fairydust Stylish Stationery for just over 10 years.
We have 3 beautiful children (2 girls and a boy) ranging in ages from 7 through 16. I love all things design based and have a very keen interest in all things home décor. I’m known amongst my family and friends for my cushion obsession!
Over the last 10 years, we have moved 4 times. Each move has seen my studio take on a different feel as it has evolved to reflect the direction and product lines of my business. My current studio is detached from my house, this is very peaceful and minimises distraction. I also love that depending on my mood I can change the look of my studio without impacting on the décor in our family home. This year I’ve gone from a girly pink and gold theme, to a fresh navy and white look.
I find inspiration in all parts of everyday life. I might see beautiful fresh food at the supermarket or a garment of clothing/fabric with stunning colours, floating clouds in the sky, flowers in the garden and then I can’t resist – I’m off to create.
Ideas sometimes come to me at night and I’ll jot them down in my notebook and perhaps add a quick sketch to further develop when I’m in the studio.
Prior to running my own business, I worked in the Advertising and Design industry for 17 years as a Print Production Manager and Studio Manager. I enjoyed challenging roles with a fantastic variety of clients and have worked and lived in Adelaide, Melbourne & Sydney.
My business was born in 2006 from my love of parties, stationery, weddings, home décor and all things beautiful.
In the first 5 years of operation, I attended many boutique market events, presenting my print range and stationery designs amongst a collection of pretty bedroom décor for children’s bedrooms, most of which I sourced from other handmade businesses.
Over ten years, I have built up a wonderful customer base and have decided to concentrate on my core products – my A4 print range and printable collections.
I love the unique finds and support network that comes from the handmade community. I have met so many talented designers, forged fantastic friendships and am constantly awed and motivated by the endless creativity on offer.
I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate from time to time and it’s fantastic working on projects with likeminded artisans. I still attend the local boutique markets to shop and support my fellow creatives.
My motivation to create my small business within this community was to enjoy watching my young family grow while still enjoying the skills I had learnt and loved during my corporate career. Whenever possible, all of the associated products I require to operate my business are purchased from other small business owners in Australia, we are lucky to have such a wealth of talent in this country.
Made It has been a fantastic selling platform for my business. I have been delighted with the results I have achieved, especially over the last 12 months. Made It has offered me a website with a facility for direct online sales without the worry of having to manage and develop my own site. Uploading and managing the content in my store is super easy. .
I love the flexibility of being able to pop my store in holiday mode and the fact it is Australian owned and managed is particularly attractive to me.
I have a direct link from my Made It store from both my Facebook page and Instagram account which makes online shopping for my customer base convenient and secure. Added to this, the additional support and promotional opportunities I receive is invaluable for my small business.
